How much water should I drink?

Research states that you should drink between 2 & 3 litres of water a day, depending on your body weight, health, level of activity and where you live. Water makes up at least 60% of your body weight. Your organs and systems depend on it!

Where you to buy water purifiers in Gauteng

According to most health experts the average person should drink two to three liters of water each and every day. Why? Well, as you undoubtedly know, every living creature on the planet needs water to survive. In fact, water makes up more than sixty percent of a human's body weight, and a person cannot survive for more than a week without it.

Why? Well, your body must perform a number of important tasks and it relies on water to complete many of them. For example, your blood, which needs copious amounts of water, carries oxygen to your cells. As you might expect, without oxygen, all of your cells would shut down and die and your body would simply stop working.

So, we have established that water is essential to our survival...no big feat. But is certain water better for us than other s? For instance, is tap water better or healthier for us than bottled water, or vice versa?

How safe is tap water?

For decades people have been debating the safety of drinking water. And though there are hundreds, possibly even thousands of studies that arrive at slightly different conclusions, the overwhelming majority of them agree that drinking water is not entirely safe. Why is this? Well, the simple fact is that municipal water filtration systems have many limitations.

In fact, they were specifically designed to protect people from deadly water-borne diseases like typhoid. They are also quite good at removing dirt, mud and raw sewage. Heck, they can even get rid of heavy metals, rocks, pebbles and many harmful minerals. This is often enough to grant the water a passing grade and to ensure that it is not toxic. However, that does not mean that it is uncontaminated or that it is good for you.

One thing we know for sure is that most public water plants use certain chemicals to kill harmful bacteria and to disinfect the water. The most common chemical they use is chlorine, which produces chemical byproducts known as THMs. These byproducts are proven carcinogens and if imbibed in copious quantities they can cause serious health conditions.

What about bottled water? Well, did you know that almost a third of bottled water comes directly from the tap? (No, it is not all collected from a mountain stream.) Not to mention the fact that many bottled water plants have questionable safety methods and do not perform adequate toxicity tests on the water they sell.

That leaves us with water purifiers as our only available option. But like most things in life, not all products that claim do the job, that claim to produce purified water, actually do so. In fact, many water purifiers simply remove that offensive chlorine smell so consumers believe that they are drinking purified water. But, in reality, there is still chlorine and there are still potentially hazardous THMs in the water.

So, when you look for a machine that is capable of producing real purified water, make sure you do your homework. Find a unit that meets all of the top industry standards and is manufactured by a reputable company that offers a money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied.
