Whats in a name? Some eleven years ago when we started this business we searched for a name that would identify us with everything that was clean and pure in the public eye and that relates to water. The name Glacier stood out as the only logical match.
Glaciers. The word Glacier, no doubt, makes you think of a mountain of cold ice and snow. Whilst most glaciers are found near the Poles they actually exist on all of the worlds continents, even Africa. Three geographic locations limit glaciers found in Africa; two volcanoes ( Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro) and the Ruwenzori mountain group.
Glaciers begin to form when snow remains in the same area year-round, where enough snow accumulates to transform into ice. Each year new layers of snow bury and compress the various layers. Gradually the compacted snow increases in density till it turns into glacier ice. Under the pressure of its own weight and the forces of gravity, a glacier will begin to move, or flow, outwards and downwards. If in a valley it will flow downwards and follow the contours of the valley; continental glaciers will flow outwards in all directions from a central point ( ice sheets). For most glaciers, this process takes over a hundred years.
Glaciers are a natural resource on which many people depend. In Switzerland’s Rhone Valley, farmers have irrigated their crops for hundreds of years by channeling melt-water from glaciers to their fields. The city of La Paz, Bolivia rely on glacial melting from a nearby ice cap to provide water during extremely dry spells experienced in their area. About 10% of the world's land area is covered with glaciers whilst 75% of the world's fresh water is stored in glaciers. The ice in the Antarctic is more than 4200 meters thick in some areas!
So, like glaciers we strive to provide the healthiest possible water through our extensive range of high quality purifiers combined with our impeccable service which we have maintained over 11 years, as nearly all of our loyal clients will attest.
