Some eight years ago when we started this business, we looked around for a name that would identify us with everything that was clean and pure in the public eye when it came to thoughts of water, and the only logical natural phenomena that are found on every continent are Glaciers. Have you had the privilege of standing at the foot of one of these spectacular rivers of packed ice? If so you would have marveled at the beauty, spleandour and cleanliness of these natural wonders.
With this in mind, we set out to find the best possible match to the water that come from these awesome giants, and as nearly all of our many clients will attest, we seem to have found that match. We thought that to kick off this monthly newsletter to you, we would give you a few interesting fact about glaciers.
Did you know that about 10% of land area is covered presently by glaciers, and that 75% of the world’s fresh water comes from them?
Glacierised areas cover about 15 million square kilometers, and at the Antarctic the ice is more than 4,200 meters thick in parts. If all the land Ice had to melt, the sea level would rise about 70 meters worldwide. Staying in Gauteng as we do does have some advantages, it would seem. And finally, only 10% of an iceberg, which is a piece of a glacier that has broken off, is visible above water. 90% of it lurks below the sea, as those poor souls on board the “Titanic” found out to their detriment back in 1912.
